From June 23-July 2nd, we will partner with Ms Bennett and the Mission for Haiti's volunteer staff to provide trained support in nursing, construction, maintenance, and food and supply distribution through Operation Hosanna Hope. In addition, we will offer nightly worship and counseling services to those interested.
Our work will be based in Jacmel, a city 25 miles south of Port-au-Prince, where Pastor Dieupie (pronounced Joo-pee) Cherubin and his congregation at Hosanna Baptist Church have set up a triage center, providing relief to the injured and homeless. To learn more about Mission for Haiti and the Operation Hosanna Hope Disaster Plan enacted shortly after the devastating earthquake of January 12, please visit missionforhaiti.org.
Heritage Baptist Church has been blessed to partake of two prior mission trips, and we have experienced the truth of Christ's words recorded by the Apostle Paul, "How that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" ( Acts 20:35 )
As our trip approaches, I am writing to ask for much needed prayer and even financial support. We plan to distribute over-the-counter medicine during the hygiene and disease prevention clinics led by our trained nursing staff. Please consider donating much needed funds for the purchase of adult and children's vitamins, calcium supplements, aspirin, ibuprofen, cold and flu medicine, and antacids. Though the economic downturn continues to affect us all, I hope you can pray and give as the Lord leads in this vital effort.
Pray for our team pictured above, left to right: Heather Welsh, Jeff Profet, Antoinette Nwandu, Matthew Recker, Ellie Eskenazi, Vincent Abruzzese, David Lopez, Benedict Francis, Victor Chan, Hilary Whilby, Carmine Carannante, and Renata Barbosa dos Santos (not pictured). Of those going, two are registered nurses, and three of the men work in construction.
Our theme verses are from Nehemiah 2:17 ,20. Verse twenty states our belief that God is leading us to go and will make our brief trip eternally fruitful:
"Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, He will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build."
Please pray for us!
Sincerely in Christ,
Matthew Recker
